    Where to begin... Over the years, I have had the pleasure of dining at some of the most renowned restaurants in the United States and Europe. I will not say that the meals I've had at the Penrose Room are the best, but it would be hard to choose another meal from another restaurant that was quantifiably better. When you factor in the price of the Penrose Room and the beautiful setting that is the Broadmoor Hotel, you would be hard pressed to find a better dining experience. In summation, if you have the chance, have a meal at the Penrose Room on a Friday or Saturday night; you will not be disappointed. Also, show up an hour or two early and enjoy a drink by the lake.

    As far as ambiance goes - it's probably the best in Colorado a 5 star. The wait staff was excellent and attentive - 5 stars. I just can't give a 5 for food because it (the halibut) definitely lacked vegetables. Same goes for the trout. In other words - the last bite tasted exactly like the first bite - both very good, but it would taste even better with a bite of vegetables to clear the pallet once in a while.

    So I used to work here as a hostess back in the day, but never actually got to dine here while I was employed. I finally got to enjoy this awesome fine dining restaurant with my husband after we got married. It was a after wedding celebration for just the two of us. I was not expecting much as far as the service goes, because my husband still worked for the hotel (the broadmoor, where the Penrose Room is located). I thought they wouldn't put much effort into making sure we had a great experience because it's just an employee having dinner, but boy was I wrong. They reserved a table with a lovely view of the mountains for us, and the service was awesome! From the hostess, to the sommliers, to the servers and the maitre'd. We had the 7 course chef's tasting, and every single course was amazing! And I mean ah-may-zing!!! Even my husband, who is the pickiest of eaters enjoyed EVERYTHING, even the foie gras!!!! Our dining experience ended with the cutest desserts, chocolate strawberries and souffle trio with "congratulations" written in chocolate on the plate. The food, the wine, the service, the ambience was sooo perfect. Bravo to the The Penrose Room and the Broadmoor Staff, you made our special day even more special, and unforgettable. Like the last reviewer, this was the most INCREDIBLE dining experience i've EVER had in my life. This place is fine dining at it's FINEST.

    This place is over the top in every single way. The food was incredible. We had a 7 course chef's tasting complete with wine pairings. In addition, the chef took special concern to ensure that that all of the dishes were gluten and lactose free. The Sommeliers were friendly and enthusiastic, it's contagious when someone pours a wine for you and seems absolutely excited about it. I don't think I've ever spent so much on food on my life, but it was incredible and delicious. I would highly recommend it.

    You don't know Fine dining or 5 star until you've experienced the Penrose Room. It's like walking into the Titanic's first class deck's dining room. Enjoy some cocktails at the cocktail lounge and check out the impressive wine cellar leading to the dining room. I worked there several years ago. Tough job I tell ya, but am thankful for the experience & incredible friends I've made from all over the world! I've been a hard critic at other restaurants after working here. No one lives up to the Penrose Room, of course. I have the utmost respect for the team who works there. They work very hard but with passion & attention to every detail to keep its 5 star rating and guests impressed & content from the moment they walk through the elevators. Most of the guests expect it and can be snotty enough to complain about other guests who do not "look" the part. I do not kid! Be it snotty rich folks, celebrities, foreign dignitaries, or commoners, this dining room is elegant, classy & regal and treats every guest like royalty. Don't expect a seat with designer jeans on. Dress code is strict. Price is not for the frugal. Live Entertainment is superb (Ken, Lila & the band are awesome - not sure if they're still playing?). Service is top notch. Cuisine is absolutely divine. The views are breathtaking...etc. etc. etc. Oh, highly recommend the grand marnier & chocolate souffle! Of course, the classic Caesar salad that's made at your table, too. Can't wait to dine there when I visit. TIP: Reservation is a must. The best seat in the house? Top hot seats are reserved at the windows and go fast. Guests used to tip me $100's for a window seat. Don't! Sit in the middle of the room or booths for an amazing view of both mountain and lake views.

    I had a very difficult time on how to rate this experience. Pros: -The views are amazing and beautiful. Truly gorgeous. -The decor is sumptuous and romantic, very nice. -The service was mostly impeccable. Cons: -The food was just OK. Nothing impressive. -The scallops they served us were bad, I ate one and realized it had 'turned'. Got food poisoning and was very sick the next day. We had a fixed menu, so I only got to try a few things. Portions were very small, I don't know the cost, but I am sad to say that serving bad seafood at such a high end restaurant is VERY disappointing.

    Best ambiance in the city, by far (maybe the state). Great view of the city lights below. The jazz band was lively but never overbearing. Lighting was beautiful. The tables are far enough away from each other that you don't hear any other diners. Staff was very attentive. Dishes were served with elegance and a detailed explanation of the dish, which was nice since we did the 7 course tasting menu with pairings. The food was really, really good with one exception. One of the courses was an egg cooked to be a little frothy on a bed of polenta. It was way too smoky for me or my wife. The smoke was just like eating a glass of strong single malt. Camp fire. The garden salad was the best salad ever with warm mashed potatoes as a foundation and roasted porcini mushrooms to give it some crunch. We also had veal, which was also very good. The dessert course was incredible. Wine list is extensive with some options that demand an expense account. The pairings were nicely done and not very obvious, which I liked. All in all, a wonderful evening.

    I've stayed at the Broadmoor several times, but this was the first time I tried their signature restaurant. I ended up coming here twice. I liked what I ate so much the first time I ordered the exact same menu the second time (foie gras, Duck A L'orange, Gâteau aux Fruits). Next time I'll sit at the bar and just have the Gâteau aux Fruits and a glass of port. A restaurant that provides a reason to dress up, look sharp, and go out for the evening. I've never seen another restaurant like this in the U.S.A (or elsewhere), although similar places must exist. The hostess told me that they plan for guests to come for the entire evening - for a night of dining, socializing, and dancing. Tables are arranged around a fairly large dance floor, and I think a live band plays each evening (think American Songbook with old-timey dancing + jazzy takes on Adult Contemporary). A very elegantly decorated restaurant, refined like the rest of the Broadmoor. Unless you are there primarily to dance, I recommend asking for a table away from the dance floor (quieter), with the tables overlooking the lake the best (I thought the city view pretty boring). As noted, the food was very very good. The portions are massive, so I don't see the point of ordering anything except the 3 course dinner (although I assume the portions for the 7 course tasting menu are much smaller). Two very nice evenings,the first made memorable by the fact that the couple sitting at a nearby table were celebrating their 64th!!! wedding anniversary. The bar associated with the restaurant looks like a cool place to hang out.

    This is place is over the top with everything. From the offer of a chair pillow when we arrived to the numerous staff that were at our beckon call this place was amazing. It is definitely a very expensive experience but well worth the money. I was blown away by everything. The food quality was wonderful. I had the filet and it just melted in my mouth. The cheese options is a must to order. The wine selection was overwhelming but they were right there to help us make the right decision. Not a quick decision I think we were there for 2 1/2 hours. The live band was also a nice touch. If you are staying at the Broadmoor this is a must on your visit. Great place to entertain clients. I would go here every night if I could. One of the best experiences I have ever experienced.

    Wow... Elegant setting, gorgeous chandeliers, dance floor, and a terrific jazz trio with singer. Service was gracious and friendly...not the least bit snobby. The food was...interesting. Most definitely sophisticated and refined...just not always to my tastes. Amuse Bouche Three tiny bites...a tiny quenelle of salmon tartare on a crisp of brioche, a chilled soup of butternut squash, and a pickled onion and cauliflower finish providing much needed acidity. Bread service terrific...favorites included mini baguettes and bacon/cheddar roll. Cauliflower Soup du Barry with bechamel gratin, chervil, and nutmeg paired with a Quattro Mani, Franciacortafrom Lombardy, Italy...sinfully rich and satisfying. Marinated ahi tuna and west coast oyster kinilaw with ginger and lime and tomato granita...paired with LucienCrochet Sauvignon Blanc, Sancerre, Loire Vally, Frace 2009...this tasted rather bizarre...not my favorite. Chestnut gnocchi and braised rabbit, country bacon, root vegetables, whole grain mustard sauce ...paired with Domaine Huet, LeHaut-Lieu, Chenin Blanc, Demi-Sec, Vouvray, Loire Valley, France, 2009...again, good, but no wow factor for me. Roasted Day Boat Atlantic Cod with caramelized pears, baby leeks, cashew butter, Goan coconut sauce and a naan tuille...paired with Maison RochedeBellene, Pinot Noir, Burgundy, France 2010...fish was perfectly done, but I was not a fan of the sauce nor the cashew butter. Angus Beef Tenderloin with pomme purée, Tommie de savior and Brussels sprout leaves...paired with Outpost Zinfandel, Howell Mountain, Napa California, 2009...the most conventional dish of the evening, and coincidently my favorite. The meat was perfectly done and everything was...harmonious. Cheese selection consisting of P'tit Basque, Cabecou du Perigord, Blue d'Auvergne...paired with Warre's Otima 10 year old Tawny Porto, Portugal...I'm not a huge cheese person, but my wife enjoyed it. Some of the cheeses were a little strong for me. Le Baba...vanilla mouse line,orange glacé and grand marnier...paired with Disznoko, Tokaji Aszu, 5 Puttonyos, Hungary 2007. Good, but not particularly memorable. Overall, very refined and sophisticated. I was not a fan of some of the flavor combinations, but I could certainly appreciate the work and thought that went into them. Though the food did not do it for me, I would definitely return, given the chance.

    This place doesn't miss a single detail. The food preparation is spot on. The only problem that I giggled to myself about was you need a translator to read the menu. However, the server has no problem explaining every single item that peeks your curiosity. What ever you order I will tell you that this place does not disappoint! It deserves all 5 stars but remember you get what you pay for.

    The Penrose Room lived up to its reputation. Every detail was attended to and every morsel of food was absolutely stunning in its presentation, popping with wonderful tasty flavors. The wait staff was plentiful, helpful and attentive. They were always available while not being intrusive. The 4 man orchestra added to the overall experience and we enjoyed dancing between courses and after the meal. ...and the noise level was low, we could actually have a pleasant conversation easily. The Penrose Room offers 3, 4 or 7 course meals. We had the four course. ...and of course in this French inspired restaurant there are extras, from the amuse bouche and chocolates at the end. I had a delicious garden vegetable landscape of small vegetables, porcini mushrooms and hazelnuts. It was almost too pretty to eat. Roasted beets with chevre and puffed wild rice was amazing combination of crunch and savory. The Colorado lamb followed and it was tender, juicy and prepared perfectly. My wife had the 64 degree egg that she raved about as the best ever followed by the lobster entre. We had the wine pairings -- all were exceptional and our sommelier, knew all the wines and made exceptional choices for us. He made the night even more memorable by describing what we were drinking and why it worked with the food we had chosen. For most people this is a special occasion place because of the price. Overall, it was well worth it. Yes, the Penrose Room is a special place, with the highest quality food, the most caring service, an exceptional wine list and amazing views to the outside. No wonder they have so many prestigious awards. They deserve all of them and more. I can't imagine a trip to Colorado Springs and not stopping here. This is among the best restaurants in the world.

    My husband and I had dinner here for our anniversary. The meal and service were excellent. We had the 7 course dinner. The bisque was amazing!! I would have lick the bowl. The main reason for not having 5 stars is that the steak was over cooked and didn't have much flavor. Not something you expect in a restaurant in Colorado.

    Excellent food, very nicely presented, attentive to every detail, truly an event. Make sure you have a few hours if you are ordering dinner. They do not rush the food and it is a dining event, not a quick dinner. Everything was excellent. My husband had the tasting appetizer and then the venison. Both were fantastic. Cesar salad is made table side, just the way I like it. Could have used more anchovy. I had the cod and it was very light and tasty. Desert was to die for, but I only had room for a few bites. Chocolate torte is still on my husband's mind as he said it was the best desert he had ever had. I had the sorbet. Service was extremely attentive.

    This review is long over do! My family and I started staying at the Broadmore hotel for the new year last year. It is now our yearly tradition to spoil ourselves for a years hard work. This year we ate at the Penrose room and let me tell you ... it was absolutely fantastic! I have never experience such a wonderful time in my life. Let me start by saying I'm just an average every day Joe. I'm not use to this kind of attention but I could definitely get use to it. The Penrose room was recommended by some coworkers so I put it on my to do list. Unfortunately I was not aware of the dress code and I did not pack dress pants or a jacket. No problem the maître d' went out of his way to find both for me and instead of making me feel bad or out of place he was very apologetic as if it was his fault I was not prepared. Suitable attire was provided and we were shown to our table. Since I have waited so long to write this review I have forgotten what exactly we ordered but I remember it was 7 courses. 7 courses of perfectly prepared heaven. They even made some substitutes for our particular dietary needs. My wife and I our adventurous when it comes to food, so we will try most anything that does not include pork. That being said the only thing I did not like was foie gras. Our waiter had a strong accent from India I believe, which made understanding him a little fun, but he was the most accommodating waiter I've ever had. He, and everyone we dealt with truly understood customer service. I really can't write enough good things about this place. The best I can do is advise you go there your self and experience it first hand. I give you my personal assurance, unless you are impossible to please you won't be disappointed. I must add, take your wallet. This place is a fabulous experience but it ain't cheep.

    Excellent. Visited in September on a Wednesday night. This was worth the drive down after a long flight. The experience was very elegant and you simply cannot go wrong with the food. What a divine palate experience. But then who am I...this kind of thing is definitely not a norm for me, but I do have a taste for excellently prepared food!

    The Penrose Room is the most amazing restaurant I have ever been to the attention to detail service and food were all stellar! I dream about the food they serve and even too a picture of each dish before I ate it. the ingredients were fresh local and so flavorful! Ask for a wine pairing for anything you eat and you will enjoy the experience even more! I cant wait to go back!

    Unbelievable. Emotional. World-class. Questions? As a world-travelled chef and baker, I am not over-awed just because of a restaurant's location and reputation - I judge the merits for myself. And oh my, the Penrose Room is the real deal folks. We've gone three times in the past two years (it is expensive, and we prefer the $180/person chef-tasting with wine-pairing): two wedding anniversaries and just before my last deployment to Afghanistan. Each time the staff at the Penrose graced us with personal notes of congratulations (anniversaries) and luck (pre-deployment - didn't work though, I got wounded; or perhaps it did work because I wasn't killed...). The Penrose Room is definitely deserving of it's 5-diamond rating, it's sterling reputation, and it's niche as Colorado Springs' (if not all of Colorado's) premier culinary experience. This tops my dining experiences at the elite Four Season's in both Chicago and Doha (Qatar), the seafood's on par with Bob Chin's (then #3 rated restaurant in US) and our fresh seafood experience living in Hawaii, and the beef as tender as the Kobe beef I had in while in Kobe, Japan. It's worth every penny, and I'd have been glad to roll up my sleeves and scrub pots just for a glimpse inside the executive chef's brain (and kitchen). Each course is tantalizingly introduced, impeccably served, and I found myself rolling my eyes in approbation and appreciation for true culinary genius. Not puffery or hyperbole, this is cuisine realizing its fullest potential to touch the human experience.

    We went here for a birthday celebration. We expected it to be expensive but were not prepared for how we would feel after spending over $900 for dinner for four. The food was very good and the service just as great. Guess we just felt like the cost kind of ruined it for us. We will go back when we are more prepared for that!

    To me the Penrose Room is overhyped. The grounds are beautiful as always and the food is well....good....but not great. It feels dated...old school in a bad way. I had a great Crab Bisque appetizer but the entree was so bad I don't even exactly remember what I had sad to say...we went a few months ago. Service was attentive...really top notch. Given the prices vs food..not sure I would go back.

    I came for dinner here on my birthday, during my honeymoon with the husband. I had made the reservations ridiculously early in advance, and mentioned in passing that this was the honeymoon. When we got to our table, we had a lovely hand written card thanking us for coming and congratulating us on our special occasion. The menu has some lovely items on it, so we went for the 7 course, chef picked choices with the wine pairings. So fancy! And of course, I'm sure we gave the chef a heart attack with the "Husband can't have gluten or dairy. Pls. advise." The dishes they sent out were so good you would have never known something may have been missing/replaced/etc. Of course, being the dairy lover I am, I made sure they knew I loved cheese and could have it, so I got a cheese course and he got a sorbet. Mmm. Cheese. The wines that were paired with the food matched perfectly and tasted amazing. I only wish I had remembered the wines I liked so I could continue my taste-bud love. Ah well, it shall remain a golden memory. Our last course/dessert had "Congratulations" written on it in chocolate fudge! Oh never has that word been so tasty. The service was amazing. Like, I can't believe how good it was. Fresh napkins everywhere, simultaneous dish serving and our server even took our picture for us. Even at a classy place. She didn't even blink. There was also dancing. The band was excellent, jazzy, not to loud. Gave a nice ambiance to the place. The views are just fantastic. Mountains on one side, the city on the other. The place is on the 9th floor (or 8th?) and you can see far and wide. The restrooms were neat, posh and fancy. Of course. Like the rest of the place! Just know, this is not cheap. It was delicious, excellent and fancy but definitely a special event kind of place. Tinfoil swans are only enjoyable if enjoyed a memorable few times in a life.

    How are there not more reviews about this place?! This is the most incredible dining experience I've ever had. The atmosphere, the location, the attentive and friendly staff, the attention to detail, the live swing/jazz band!!! Yes, your hosts will watch your every move so that you can get up and dance in between courses to the live band playing in front of your table/booth. Your couse will be put on hold until you return to your table. Flawlessly executed. It's been a year since I've been here (and had the chef's tasting with wine pairing) but will update my review when I return this August. It is now the only 5 star & 5 diamond restaurant (having recently achieved their 5th star) in all of CO. The Broadmoor Hotel, where this restaurant is located, is an experience in of itself.

    I enjoyed dining here. Honestly, the food really isn't all that... You could probably find a better restaurant with better food easily in Denver, but I still highly recommend dining here. Why? Well, it is truly a once in a life time experience. I don't think I've ever eaten anywhere that offers a pillow to comfort your seating. It's also kinda cool how multiple waiters serves you and walks all syncronized to bring your dishes in a silver covered dome. And talk about decor,WOW, beautiful! I would highly recommend for special occasions. BTW- they have a great band and there's even a little area for dancing also!

    I dined at the Pennrose Room as part of a group that had reserved the entire restaurant. Perhaps it was due to the fact that it was such a large crowd being served at once that led to my less than impressed opinion of Pennrose's food. To be sure, the atmosphere and the service were unparalled and that is why they get the stars they do. Frankly, the food (after the huge hype) was disappointing. Our amuse bouce (fennel panna cotta and cold soup) was ok. No depth of flavor. The greens with pine nut encrusted goat cheese was nice, but not spectacular. The next course, a cold crabmeat salad, was fresh and tasty, but not particularly original. For an entree, I chose the filet with Bernaise. The filet itself was cooked nicely and the Bernaise was silky and tasty, if a little mild. The potatoes were just ok. The palate cleanser--basil based sorbet was very intense and delicious. Dessert was a creme brulee which disappointed. I think my expectations were just too high when I heard this was a 5 star restaurant. Have had comparable steak at a high-end chain steakhouse. I wonder if I came here on my own if I would have a different opinion. Dined at a sister restaurant at the Broadmoor (the Summit) several years ago and thought the Summit was much better.
